With just 4 ingredients, Strawberry Milk is so easy to make at home and tastes way better than store-bought. Sweet, creamy and filled with fresh strawberry flavor, this homemade strawberry milk recipe is also extremely customizable from the amount of sugar to the type of milk you use. Kids and adults LOVE this childhood favorite!
As a kid I loved strawberry milk. Do schools still offer it in the carton?
Lately, I’ve had a craving for my childhood favorite. I wanted to make a version with simple ingredients that I would feel good about drinking and serving to my daughter.
To make a healthier recipe, using fresh strawberries for the main ingredient is a MUST! Feel free to use as much or as little sugar as you like. And you can easily mix up this recipe with any favorite milk product.
This homemade version tastes SO much better than store-bought! It’s refreshing, creamy and perfectly sweet with all natural, real strawberry flavor. Yum!
Ingredients needed:
This milk recipe is made up of two main components – milk and strawberry juice. When you combine the two together, you have the most delicious treat! Here’s what you need to make it:
- Strawberries. The key ingredient for this sweet, creamy drink! You can use fresh or frozen.
- Sugar. Needed to make the strawberry juice. You can use as much or as little as you like! I usually use about ½ cup of sugar, but if you prefer your milk to be a little less sweet, you can start with ⅓ cup and add a little more later, as desired.
- Water. This is the liquid base of the juice.
- Milk. You can use any milk that you prefer. I’ve made this recipe with both 2% milk and oatmilk. Whole milk will make the drink a bit more rich and creamy, but any plant based milk will be delicious as well.
How to make strawberry milk at home:
Gather all of your ingredients and let’s whip up this delicious recipe!
- Combine & simmer ingredients. In a pot over medium heat, combine ingredients and bring them to a very gentle simmer.
- Cook. Stir frequently and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Strain. With a fine mesh sieve, strain the strawberry mixture into a clean bowl. Use a spatula to gently press the strawberries down to remove all of the juice. Once all of the juice has been strained out, discard the strawberries.
- Cool. Let the juice cool before using it to make strawberry milk or storing it in the fridge for a later use.
- Combine juice and milk. To make one glass of strawberry milk, stir 1 cup of cold milk with 3-4 tablespoons of the juice and drink up. See tips below for making a large batch.
How to make this recipe vegan:
You can easily make strawberry milk vegan-friendly. For a dairy free recipe, simply combine any favorite nondairy milk with the strawberry juice. Almond, cashew, oat, or coconut milk all work great! My personal favorite to use is oatmilk.
Other uses for strawberry juice:
This recipe makes 1 1/4 cups of strawberry juice. This is enough for about 5 cups of strawberry milk. I often use some juice for making strawberry milk and then use the leftover juice for topping pancakes, waffles or this French toast. Find more uses for strawberry juice here.
Quick tips:
- If you’re using fresh strawberries to make your strawberry milk, it’s best if they are at peak ripeness. If it isn’t strawberry season, frozen strawberries will have the best flavor.
- Feel free to make your pretty pink milk with whatever variety of milk you like best. This recipe is completely vegan, if you use a plant based milk. However, whole milk will provide the richest, tastiest drink. For extra rich creaminess, try adding a splash of heavy cream or half-and-half!
- To make a single serving of the strawberry milk: mix together 1 cup of cold milk with 3-4 tablespoons of the juice. Start with 3 and add more as desired. Store leftover juice in the fridge (up to 2 weeks) to make the milk as desired.
- To make a large batch: mix together 5 cups of cold milk with most or all of the strawberry juice and stir or shake until fully combined. Store leftovers in the fridge and shake well before serving.
Storage recommendation:
Store your homemade strawberry milk in a jar or bottle with a lid in the refrigerator. The strawberry milk will keep well for as long as the milk that you used to make it. I like to give it a little shake before pouring.
